About JVI

The founder of Jonathan Virginia, Inc. came to love fine wood at a young age. Raised in an old Virginia Landmark house, from birth he was surrounded by fine antiques. His love of music as a teen led him to meet a retired country man who had started to repair guitars and banjos in his spare time. "Even though I was only seventeen at the time, I still knew that I had met my first teacher. Not only did I learn about repairing musical instruments, but more importantly about the patience and discipline that was required to work wood and really to lead my life" After graduating from The University of Virginia in 1977, Fink set up a small guitar manufacturing shop in a studio of a local arts center. "Instrument making was experiencing a true renaissance nationwide at this time, and I remember traveling (hitch hiking) all over the country visiting other young artisans. This was a vital and urgent time in my life"
In 1983 Jonathan was founded as a sole proprietorship. Small consumer products, baby rattles, rolling pins, pastry boards began to be sold on a nationwide basis. " I used the techniques and disciplines gleaned from guitar making to initiate small production runs of finely made products. In 1986 Jonathan Virginia, Inc. was established to service a growing customer base, and has since significantly enlarged the scope of its operations.
Today the Company services many of Americas premier companies with their product requirements. Fink has made extensive international trips in order to locate new sources of materials and supply in an ever changing market. " We now provide products to an extraordinary number of diverse companies across America and Europe. Our mission is still the same...to provide the most beautiful products at the most competitive prices on a global scale. Its been a wild ride"
As an aside Fink has recently announced that in the near future, in a small corner of the company's operation, a guitar making studio will reemerge. "Nothing would bring a greater smile to my face."
